This mixed use residential and retail scheme converted the old Barclays Bank in to a modern retail unit and refurbished the existing residential apartments above. The whole block was in a state of disrepair and the apartments were infested with pigeons.
In order to redevelop this prestigious block in what is one of Guildford’s most prominent retail positions the team needed to manage both the design development and Local Authority consultation in parallel with initiating and developing a humane and acceptable solution to the pigeon infestation in conjunction with a number of specialist local companies.
The design development involved close liaison and consultation with the Local Authority and construction required an element of key stakeholder involvement and close working relationships as work to the apartment block involved labour, plant and materials traversing above occupied and operational shop units. In addition access and scaffolding works required careful planning in order to minimise disruption.
